📖 About

The Al Qudra Lakes are a chain of man-made oases in the open desert — dozens of interlinked ponds that have become a genuine ecosystem, home to swans, ducks and herons and a stopover for flamingos and 170+ migratory species. At dawn, mist on the water and oryx on the ridgelines make it hard to believe Downtown is 40 minutes away.

This is Dubai's picnic-and-camping heartland: families ring the shores with BBQs and tents on winter weekends (camping is permitted in designated zones), and the star attraction next door is the Al Qudra Cycle Path — 80+ km of floodlit, car-free tarmac looping through the dunes, with rental shops and a café at the trailhead.

Bring binoculars, arrive early, and loop in the heart-shaped Love Lakes and the Al Marmoom wildlife reserve — all part of the same free desert playground.

⭐ Highlights

  • Chain of desert lakes with resident swans and visiting flamingos
  • 80+ km car-free cycle network with rentals at the trailhead
  • Legal desert camping and BBQ zones
  • Oryx and gazelle sightings at dawn
  • Completely free

💡 Insider Tips

  • Sedans are fine to the main lakes — just stay on the graded tracks.
  • Cyclists: start at dawn, carry double water, and mind the 50 km loop's lack of mid-route supplies.
  • Weekend nights get busy with campers; weekdays you'll have entire lakes alone.
  • Take all rubbish out — the swans' home survives on visitor discipline.
