Al Qudra Fossil Rock
Ancient marine fossils in the open desert — with barely another soul around
A restored mountain village 90 minutes from Downtown — Dubai's other world
Ninety minutes from the Burj Khalifa, Dubai turns into mountains. Hatta is the emirate's Hajar Mountains exclave, and its Heritage Village is a beautifully restored 18th-century settlement of stone-and-mud houses, watchtowers, a fort and a working falaj irrigation channel threading through palm groves.
You can wander the village lanes, climb the watchtowers for valley views, and see how mountain Emiratis lived long before oil — all free. It feels closer to rural Oman than to the Dubai of malls and towers, which is exactly why it belongs on your itinerary.
Almost nobody comes to Hatta only for the village: pair it with kayaking on the turquoise water of Hatta Dam, the mountain-bike and hiking trails, and the Wadi Hub adventure park. Together they make the best day trip in the emirate.
