Wadi Ghalilah
The great rock amphitheatre — 1,500-metre walls and village terraces
The legendary village stairway hike — serious, spectacular, experts only
The most famous hard hike in the Emirates: an old Shihuh village route up the sheer headwall of Wadi Ghalilah, climbing ~1,500 vertical metres via hand-built stone stairways cantilevered over voids — engineering by mountain farmers, now a rite of passage for the region's serious hikers.
It is genuinely dangerous — exposure, route-finding, no water, no rescue margin — and has claimed lives; it's listed here as the landmark it is, with the honest caveat: experienced parties only, never solo, never in heat, ideally with someone who's done it.
