Liwa Moreeb Dune
A 300-metre wall of sand — the UAE's tallest dune, terrifying and beautiful
Beyond the last road — expedition driving into the planet's greatest sand sea
Past Moreeb the tracks end, and what remains is the most remote drivable landscape in the Emirates: the open Empty Quarter, where dune ranges roll like ocean swells for hundreds of kilometres and a day's hard driving might cover forty of them.
This is expedition motoring, not tourism: convoys of prepared 4x4s, sand ladders and compressors, satellite comms, camp gear and leaders who read dune faces the way sailors read water. Operators run guided crossings and overnight deep-camps; experienced desert-driving clubs make pilgrimages every winter.
The reward is the profoundest silence and darkest sky in Arabia — camps where the nearest human light is beyond the horizon in every direction. For capable adventurers it's the UAE's ultimate trip; for everyone else, the guided version exists precisely so you don't die learning.
