The Gulf's grand old art museum — Orientalist masters to Arab modernism, free
Walk through a downpour without getting wet — the famous installation, permanently home here
Random International's Rain Room — the installation that drew record queues at MoMA and the Barbican — found its permanent home in Sharjah: a black-box hall where real rain falls continuously, and motion sensors part the downpour around your body as you walk through it.
The effect is uncanny and joyful in equal measure — a corridor of dry opens wherever you move, rain hammering centimetres away — and the single spotlight through the water makes everyone's photos look like album covers.
Sessions are small and timed (that's what makes it work), so book ahead. The Sharjah Art Foundation's other venues in the heritage quarter make the natural follow-on.
