📖 About

Opened in 2012 on land gifted by Dubai's ruler, Guru Nanak Darbar is the first official Sikh gurdwara in the Gulf and among the largest outside India — a serene white-marble complex whose golden domes rise improbably from the Jebel Ali industrial edge.

Visitors of every faith are welcomed with genuine warmth. Cover your head (scarves provided), remove shoes, and you can sit in the vast prayer hall as hymns are sung, then join the langar — the Sikh tradition of a free vegetarian meal served to all comers, cooked in one of the most impressive community kitchens in the region.

It holds a Guinness record for serving breakfast to people of 101 nationalities in one sitting — a fair summary of what the place is: Dubai's diversity, expressed as hospitality.

⭐ Highlights

  • Largest gurdwara outside India — white marble and gold domes
  • Langar: free community meals served to everyone, daily
  • Serene prayer hall open to respectful visitors of all faiths
  • A moving expression of Dubai's multi-faith reality
  • Free entry

💡 Insider Tips

  • Head covering and bare feet are required — scarves and shoe storage provided at the door.
  • Join the langar respectfully: sit with everyone, accept what's served, no photos of diners.
  • Dress modestly (long trousers/skirts); no alcohol or tobacco anywhere on site.
  • Sikh festival days (Vaisakhi, Gurpurab) are spectacular but very busy.
