Hatta Heritage Village
A restored mountain village 90 minutes from Downtown — Dubai's other world
Turquoise water walled by mountains — Dubai's most un-Dubai place
The Hatta Dam reservoir is the image that rebranded Hatta: emerald-turquoise water pooled between bare rock mountains, dotted with kayaks and pedal boats under a giant portrait of Sheikh Mohammed on the dam wall. It genuinely does not look like the same country as Downtown.
The paddling is easy and rewarding — rent a single or double kayak, a pedal boat or a small donut boat at the jetty and explore the fjord-like arms of the reservoir, where herons fish from the rocks and the silence is total once you round the first bend.
Swimming isn't permitted (it's a working reservoir), but between the paddle, the dam-top viewpoints and the switchback drive up, this is the anchor stop of every Hatta itinerary.
