📖 About

Mleiha is the thinking traveller's desert: the same cinematic red dunes and fossil-strewn outcrops as anywhere in the Gulf — but layered over one of Arabia's most important archaeological landscapes, where humans have left traces for 130,000 years.

The Mleiha Archaeological Centre orchestrates it all: dune-bashing and buggy safaris that stop at Bronze Age tombs, sunset hikes up Fossil Rock, camel treks, overnight camps — adventure with an unusually good story attached.

It's Sharjah's flagship experience and, for many visitors, the best-run desert operation in the country: smaller convoys, guides who genuinely know the ground, and dark-sky nights the city deserts lost long ago.

⭐ Highlights

  • Red dune fields around the Fossil Rock massif
  • Safaris that weave in real archaeology
  • Sunset hikes, camel treks and overnight camps
  • Smaller convoys than the Dubai desert circus
  • Legit dark skies for the night programmes

💡 Insider Tips

  • Book through the Archaeological Centre — its guides are the difference.
  • The sunset Fossil Rock hike is the signature; reserve winter weekends ahead.
  • Self-drivers stick to marked tracks; tombs and fossils are protected.
  • Stack centre + activity + stargazing for the complete Mleiha day-into-night.
