Wadi Shis
Terraced farms and spring pools in Sharjah's mountain enclave
A UAE village inside Oman inside the UAE — the world's strangest border, drivable
Geography's best party trick: Madha is a piece of Oman completely surrounded by the UAE — and inside Madha sits Nahwa, a piece of the UAE (Sharjah) completely surrounded by that piece of Oman. A counter-enclave; there are only a handful on Earth.
The drive delivers the delight: you pass an Omani border monument with zero checkpoints, phone networks flip nationalities mid-valley, Omani flags and license plates take over — then flip back as you enter the little Sharjah village of Nahwa with its clinic, mosque and mountains all around.
Beyond the novelty it's a genuinely pretty wadi drive, with pools and picnic spots in the hills past the village. Bring the passport you won't need, purely for the story.
