Louvre Abu Dhabi
A rain of light beneath a floating dome — the Louvre's first outpost abroad
A mosque, a church and a synagogue in one garden — coexistence, built
Opened in 2023 from a David Adjaye design, the Abrahamic Family House places three equal cubes in one garden: the Imam Al-Tayeb Mosque, St. Francis Church and Moses Ben Maimon Synagogue — the Gulf's first purpose-built synagogue — each oriented to its own tradition, none taller than another.
Visitors walk all three sanctuaries: the mosque's mashrabiya light-screens, the church's cascade of timber beams, the synagogue's bronze-mesh tent — then the shared forum explaining the project's roots in the 2019 Document on Human Fraternity signed in Abu Dhabi by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.
Cynics arrive and architects leave converted: whatever one's faith or none, the craftsmanship and the statement — three faiths, equal footing, one address — land with unexpected force.
