Jumeirah Mosque
Dubai's most beautiful mosque — and the one that opens its doors to everyone
A facade of blazing Persian blue tiles — Dubai's most beautiful surprise
Hiding in plain sight near Satwa's roundabout is the most intricately decorated building in Dubai: the Imam Hussein Mosque, known to everyone as the Iranian Mosque — its dome and facade wrapped entirely in Persian faience mosaic, a hypnotic bloom of blues, turquoise, yellow and rose that belongs on Isfahan's grandest squares.
Built by Dubai's Iranian community, it's an active Shia mosque rather than a tourist attraction, which is precisely why almost no visitors know it. Non-Muslims admire the tilework from outside — and the outside is the show; every arch, muqarnas and calligraphy band is a photograph.
It makes the perfect anchor for exploring Satwa itself: Dubai's great unpolished neighbourhood of tailors, fabric shops and legendary cheap eats (Ravi, Al Mallah) five minutes' walk away.
