Al Ain Oasis
147,000 date palms and 3,000-year-old irrigation — the UAE's first World Heritage Site
Sheikh Zayed's family home — the founder's life before the federation
Before he built a nation, Sheikh Zayed governed Al Ain from this mud-brick palace — his family's home from 1937 to 1966, kept as it was: majlis rooms where tribal politics ran on coffee, private quarters, schoolrooms, and courtyards shaded by the oasis next door.
It humanises the founder like nowhere else — the modest rooms, the Land Rover in the courtyard, family photographs — and being free, empty and beside the oasis gate, it's the easiest meaningful hour in the city.
